The presence of shame indicates one of two things. Either Merrick Garfinkle is calling the shots, or the bureau is completely politicized with partisans and out of Wray’s control or both. I personally think it is both. Wray is weak and willing to maintain the status quo, just wanting to complete his term. They wanted an experienced frame job artist in charge of the Jan. 6th investigation- Wray was probably ordered to put him there, because they will stop at nothing to keep Trump out of office. He is on to them and the ultimate threat to their corrupt scheming.

There is a third possibility. He thinks the job of actually directing the actions and policies of his underlings is above his paygrade (like NJ governor Phil Murphy declared on national tv when confronted with not adhering to the Bill of Rights). If these essential things are beyond their paygrade, then they should look for another line of work.

Got to question his motives for taking the job in the first place. He was making close to 10 million a year at his law firm. He was another infiltrator recommended to Trump by none other than Chris Christie. Each one of those individuals did nothing but try to undermine him at every turn. Though Cruz laid out the corrupt activities of the bureau fairly effectively, he still got nothing out of Wray but the usual word games. There is no will to make the FBI and Justice Department non-partisan and functional. Perhaps Sidney Powell as AG and Mike Flynn at CIA? Probably would never happen but we can dream, can’t we?

So sad to see someone in such an important position be so weak minded. He really isnt made for that job and should probably step down.

The only reason he’s there is to placehold. His replacement would possibly be far worse. At least, with Chris Wray, you know what’s going on. It shows like a bright light.
As you say, he is weak as hell. But, we are now going to find out who told him to move that guy from Detroit to DC. It’s only a matter of time.

No idea why Cruz thinks that the FBI was apolitical until recent decades. Gracious, is he unfamiliar with J. Edgar???
